Programs for Kids 3

Our Kids 3 programs help children ages 9–11 build on their art foundations and develop more advanced drawing and painting skills. Kids learn to see like an artist — understanding light, shadow, perspective, and composition — while creating meaningful, personal artwork.

Explore Arts Program

Explore Arts Program

Kids 3: 9—11 y.o.
8 weeks, 5-15 students

A natural progression from Kids 2, this class develops color theory, composition, and construction at a deeper level. Subjects are more complex, and kids pay more attention to proportions and shadows, learn perspective, and explore aerial perspective.

In these classes, kids begin to use their artist's eye to see the shapes and colors of what they intend to draw or paint. Kids 3 prepares children for the study of light and shadow that lies at the core of our academic method.

We cover various media through a rotating curriculum, keeping kids engaged and learning new topics for at least 4 semesters. After this, we recommend taking the Drawing or Painting class.

Kids 3: 9—11 y.o.

A more intense class for advanced kids who have already taken our Explore Art classes and want to dive deeper into working with dry media.

This class covers construction, composition, and color theory at a higher level than Explore Art, with extra focus on using these ideas in graphite, charcoal, pastel, and ink drawings. Kids will learn to build three-dimensional forms, use composition rules for effective storytelling with their art, and choose colors that help their works stand out.

This class can be considered a precursor to our Teens Drawing class, and will help students get a head start on covering our Teens group class curriculum. Especially good for students intending to work on AP Studio Art portfolios.

Painting
